5 Reasons you should stretch every morning

We think it’s safe to assume you’d take any excuse to delay getting out of bed in the morning, so we’re serving one up on a golden platter. Morning productivity now means stretching in bed, and here’s why:

Take a moment

Not many people jump out of bed as soon as their alarm goes off. By taking a moment to ease into the new day you can set a positive mindset to face the challenges that may come. Doing this while stretching will help ensure you don’t fall back into a slumber and end up having to frantically rush out the door.

Ease Stress

Nowadays, it’s the norm to feel stressed. Whether yours dribbles down from your job, relationship, financial situation, or other circumstance, stretching may help alleviate some of the burdens. Consistent daily stretching can help remove tension stored in your body that only reminds you of your stress. Additionally, your muscles often tighten while you lie in bed all night, so loosening them up first thing in the morning may wake them up and prepare them for the day, as well.


Deep breathing comes naturally with stretching and has been shown to have many positive effects on the body. Taking deep inhales and exhales may also help alleviate stress, and also ground you. If you’re looking to achieve a calmer emotional state, this may be the key you’re searching for.


Many people stretch before a workout to loosen their muscles and prevent injury. Stretching doesn’t need to be reserved only for athletic engagement, though. Your muscles are likely to perform better during the day if you stretch in the morning, and you may find those aches and pains subsiding with time.


We can all benefit from improving our posture. Too much time spent sitting, looking at screens, and other forward-bending movements can overstretch back muscles and simultaneously tighten chest muscles. Morning stretches can help open and loosen these muscles to create a healthier posture and trust us, you’ll notice and welcome the effects.

Adding a stretching routine to your already busy mornings may seem unrealistic, but once you give it a chance and start to feel the benefits, you’ll never look back and may even set aside more time for your early morning stretching.
