What is shivering hands?

Hands shivering is also called as essential tremor it is a nervous system disorder that causes involuntary & rhythmic handshaking. it can happen anywhere in the human body, but most of the time it occurs in the hands. especially when you doing something from your hand EX. eating or using a mobile phone.

Hand shivering is not a chronic health condition, it is said that it may worsen over time and can be dangerous for a few people. hands shivering may occur to any age group but most of the time people from age group 40 are most affected.

Causes of hands shivering

50% of the cases are reported from a genetic mutation. this is referred to as familial tremor. It is still not clear what causes hands shivering in people without knowing the genetic mutation. it is reported that shivering occurs when the person is cold and is temporary and should stop once the individual warms up. However, Shivering can also be a sign of mental or physical disease.

Below are the causes of hand shivering

  • Tremor
  • Low blood sugar
  • Fear, Excitement or stress.
  • Fever.
  • Genetic Mutation
  • Age factor.
  • Anxiety


Hands shivering is not a fatal disease but its symptoms can worsen over time. If shivering becomes severe, you will find difficulty in.

  • Eat normally.
  • Talk, If your voice box or tongue is affected
  • write legibly
  • Hold a glass or cup without spilling.

Avoid writing with affected hands by shivering.use your hands less for daily tasks.
try voice commands on your mobile phone and speech recognition on your laptop until your symptoms are gone after treatment.

Relax yourself

Anxiety and stress are said to worse hands shivering if you relax it can improve your chances of getting rid of hands shivering.

You can eliminate all your life problems which causing stress and anxiety but you can try to react to stressful situations by using relaxation techniques. such as mediation, going to calm place, taking some herbal tea or supplement which help to reduce stress

Avoid caffeine.

Caffeine and other stimulants may increase your hands shivering.

Avoid alcohol consumption.

Drinking alcohol is not a good way to get rid of hands shivering. It is found that hands shivering tend to worsen after the effects of alcohol consumption.

Lavender oil for hand shivering

Lavender oil is one of the few essential oils for hand shivering which should be given a try. Lavender oil has the best natural ingredients to relax our nerves and muscles. resulting spasms are removed and arm shivering is reduced.[1]

Omega fatty acids are found in fish oil. this vitamin is vital for our health, Fish oil helps to improve neurons health if we do not take omega fatty acids regularly we might increase inflammation in our body and can lead to more health issues. Valerian root

Since centuries valerian roots are being used to treat insomnia, anxiety, and it has shown many benefits to relaxation and calmness. Scientists are unsure as to the actual reason why this herb works, but it is advised it help to increase the GABA chemical in the brain, & the FDA recognizes valerian as generally safe to use.   • Take 8 oz of boiling water
  • 1 Tsp of valerian root
  • Allow the tea to steep for 10 minutes.
  • Consume up to 2 times a day 1 hour after meals.
