Lyme Disease? Consider CBD for Relief

As awareness spreads surrounding the benefits and consequences of medical treatments for varying illnesses, alternative medicine is receiving more attention. Natural remedies have less long-term consequences on parts of the body that are healthy, and can often be more effective. The use of cannabidiol, or CBD, is growing in popularity for its natural healing properties, and learning all you can about new products available on the market is the thing to do.

CBD is gaining traction in popularity because it offers pain relief without mind-altering effects or the risk of addiction common with some pharmaceuticals. Many scientific studies confirm that CBD helps with the treatment of ailments such as chronic pain and anxiety

The human body contains a system called the endocannabinoid system, which plays a role in regulating functions such as sleep, appetite, pain, and immune-system response. Many medical conditions affect the functions of this system, either immediately or over time, and have symptoms that can be alleviated with CBD. Lyme disease is one such ailment that can use CBD for relief.

What is it?

Lyme disease is an infectious disease caused by four types of bacteria that are transmitted to humans through a tick bite. Those who live near the woods or spend a lot of time in wooded areas have a stronger chance of being bitten. Lyme disease is treatable, though the severity of treatment and lasting effects of the bacteria depends on what stage the disease is caught.

Recognizing the signs of Lyme disease can be tricky because a tick bite often resembles a mosquito bite. The symptoms begin to manifest up to a month after infection. A rash surrounding the site of the bite that looks like a bulls-eye accompanies fever, chills, body aches, headache, neck stiffness, and swollen lymph nodes.

If the disease is left untreated, symptoms such as skin lesions, joint pain, and neurological problems will appear. Several weeks after infection, one may experience irregular heartbeat, eye inflammation, hepatitis, and severe fatigue.

As with any disease, lasting complications occur if treatment is not sought. Untreated Lyme disease can lead to chronic joint inflammation, neurological symptoms, cognitive defects, and heart rhythm irregularities.

Treatment for Lyme disease

The standard treatment for Lyme is antibiotics, either orally or intravenously, for a certain period of time, depending on what stage the disease is in. Unfortunately, though antibiotics cure the disease, some experience lasting chronic symptoms such as fatigue and muscle aches that antibiotics cannot help.

A budding alternative treatment for post-Lyme disease syndrome is the use of cbdistillery patches. The patch has received high marks for effectiveness, with users feeling effects within an hour and lasting up to 24 hours of continuous use.  Users have reported that the CBD patch provided significant alleviation for anxiety, moderate pain relief within the first 30 minutes, and an improved ability to fall asleep faster at night.

Researchers have reason to believe that with the ability of CBD to act on the endocannabinoid system, it may have benefits for neurological disorders. Recent studies also show a link between CBD and heart and circulatory system benefits, including lowering high blood pressure.

Conclusion

While taking preventative measures to reduce the risk of contracting illnesses such as Lyme disease, health issues still sometimes arise, and you have multiple treatment options. When pharmaceutical solutions do not alleviate all symptoms, supplementing an alternative treatment like the use of CBD patches can make daily functioning possible.
