What is domestic violence?

An abusive relationship is significant mishaps for many in personal life. You should realize that you are the victim of the violence if your inner feelings and thoughts say your partner mistreats you and you cannot do anything with it. How to handle domestic abuse?

Prepare a safety plan

When you face domestic violence, it is helpful to have a plan to deal with crisis and emergency. people need to decide ways to provide a safer environment for children and themselves. the sufferer must plan how to get out from home safely and quickly in case of violence occurs. the plan should have details about, where to keep a purse, extra pairs of clothes and fast departure. An individual can disscuss code words for children or friends so they can call the police for assistance.

When you know you are being subjected to domestic violence and are not happy with what is happening, you should learn how to deal with it to enjoy a better life. You should first admit that you are in an abusive relationship to understand and learn how to handle it. Recognition and validation are the first two important steps to learn how to cope with domestic violence in your life. You being the victim of the domestic violence, it is better to talk to the family members, friends and community to get some help nearby.

Keep yourself safe

If you know that you are being abused, it is important to know how to keep yourself safe from the violence if you understand that you are being abused. Get the needed support to stay safe from the violence. You can get the needed support from the friends and family rather than just trying to leave the place. They may help you resolve the issue between the two or may help you reach the safe place and offer you the necessary support needed.

Have an escape plan

Domestic violence is very hurting to face so; you should have an escape plan anytime. Have emergency cash and clothing ready along with the important phone numbers handy. You can rehearse an escape plan when so that you can escape it quickly when there is an attack from the abuser. It is important to have an emergency contact handy always, but you should also ask the trusted people if you can contact them when you need a ride. You should always memorize emergency numbers and helpline contact number so that you can reach during the times of emergency.

Protect your privacy 

When you are being suffered from domestic violence, there are chances that your partner will have a third eye on your phone call list, internet history and other activities. You may have a fear to call emergency helpline when you suspect that your partner will check all these details. You can use other phones to make a call or use passwords for accesses your phone, use safe computers or access any helpline that your partner can check on.

Reach the refugee centre

If you feel that domestic violence or abuse is beyond your control, you can reach the refugee centre and seek long term help. You can stay there for a while, and they will also help you with the other services like legal advice if needed, emotional support and also practical help in terms of food and shelter and provides you with good security as well.

Stay with your family or friend 

During the times of physical abuse or any kind of domestic violence, it is difficult to figure out what the next move would be. Your brain may be conjured up painful thoughts and sufferings, and you will not be able to think of your next move. All you need is little time to think about your next move, till then staying with one of your friends and other family members is a safe option.

Take the help of police if need 

Police will always stand by your side in all emergencies you handle in life, and domestic violence is not an exception. You should seek immediate police help and also go for the medical treatment in case of the sexual assault. Some counsellors can lead to life further happily. Talking to the counsellor through a helpline or direct appointment will make you emotionally stronger and taking the help of the police during these situations will make you feel safe.

Keep yourself from the abuser

On the whole, you should keep yourself from the abuser to protect yourself. You should relocate to a place where your partner can find you. Parents with the children need to protect them from the abuser creating a safe environment.
